like iCloud locks on iPhones? Not that I'm aware of. My airpods were thrifted (I know, ew. I sanitized the crap out of them in every way possible.) And I had no issues pairing them. I've never noticed any locking feature with their keyboards and other input devices.

I wager iCloud locks are more for things that would hold personal information (phones, computers,) to discourage theft of those. Someone steals your earbuds, worst case scenario, you just go buy a new set. Someone steals your phone, your life turns into a mass of inconvenience and annoyances, since it's probably the hub of your daily life. Not to mention personal notes you kept on it, and photos.

I'm pretty sure all of the Apple store demo devices are running a custom version of the OS for demo purposes. You don't even need to flash the standard OS during sale because the boxed phones are standard.

Yes, but the people who steal them and know what they're doing will sell them to people who sell them to other people that can jailbreak them. That said, I'm sure there's no shortage of niggers that think it's really as simple as just stealing an iPhone from the display shelves or whatever.

I'm not a city slicker, but I remember seeing two instances of rioters vandalizing an anime store. Wish I had the webm on hand. I imagine they were looking for Naruto and DBZ merchandise to pilfer.

Ok, I'll hide in B&N and you hide in Foot Locker and we'll see who has a better night.

During the George Floyd looting bonanza, shitloads of iPhones were stolen and Apple just let the thieves keep and use them.
Before the saying "when you reward bad behavior you get more of it" existed, it was just common sense but I guess we've progressed beyond that now.

WTF are you gonna do with a bunch of books if they decide to break in or light the place on fire just 4 teh lolz? You can throw books at them to keep them at bay, but you'll run out eventually. At least I'd have something they want and can exchange for my safety. If they get too close for comfort, I'll perform my spontaneous combustion technique and take them and the shoes down with me. I'll toss shoes into the crowd and watch them cannibalize one another. If the worst comes to, I'll put on a pair of their finest running shoes and make like a banana and split.

these are floor models. their software does nothing except pretend to work so faggots can see ios in action and lock itself when removed from the display.

i thought these thieving niggers were stupid but i came to /g/ and realized things here are much, much worse.

They steal them because they're status symbols and chances are that none of them have even touched a desktop computer before, let alone even know what the fuck a GPU is.

This. Usually just disconnecting the USB cable will send it into this mode. And with the stolen models, they'll likely have records of what shipments were at the stores and what the IMEIs are, so they'll put activation locks on them and they'll brick as soon as they touch the network because they'll alert cell providers of the IMEI list.

You can't reflash shit. There is no exploit. SNs are baked in and stored in the secure enclave. Those are then referenced when the device attempts activation. GAME FUCKING OVER.

Not even just Apple, IMEI blocks for stolen phones have been a thing for decades. I remember even during the iPhone 3G days of stolen phones trying to be sold on eBay with "network blocked" being in the description and they wouldn't even sell for $40.

not only that, they've been giving the FBI and other glownigger agencies open access to all of their systems and hand over icloud backups and keys to decrypt them (as keys, for some fucking reason, are upload to icloud as well). great security they have there.

I had a friend who bought one and just used it as an iPod, since some of them were unlocked (presumably stolen from the store) but they were still able to have music synced to them at the time. I'm guessing none of them would even do that today, nor would it even be worth it.
Still, for the time, it was an easy way to have a 16gb iPod Touch you could just leave in your car.

not until you try to connect it to the internet, then it'll lock up completely. apple can unlock it, despite their continuous denials. even after cellebrite was able to find out exactly how apple was unlocking devices and to unlock them via usb apple still claimed it was "secure". but people have suspected for years that apple has been a very cooperative partner not only with US intelligence/police but especially cozy with the israeli government and provided them with the backdoors to a whole series of devices. really nice people that have your security, i mean.. israel and america's security, at heart.

they were probably forced to do that via a gag order. same as joining these CIA/NSA/FBI data collection programmes.
remember what happened to phil zimmermann? he's the creator of pgp and he was investigated for releasing a very strong encryption that even the glowies could not crack.

Well if you're doing the stupid way like that guy you make a shitty phone recording of your monitor while you zoom in with the video player you're using. If you're doing it the smart way you dump the mp4 into Openshot (or Premiere if you feel like pirating) and look up what a keyframe is.

>that even the glowies could not crack.
they couldn't because their systems were designed to break encryption already weakened by various US standards committees and various software corporations on behalf of nsa, due to the country's requirements of allowing only a certain size of key. phil won and quite literally changed the world.

I work for a phone retailer. Apple includes trackers in all demo units and randomly selected retail units. I don't know how you could determine which one has the tracker, but it's how we found out who robbed the safe in a couple of our stores to press charges.
