>>105567712 (OP)yes
enterprise customers pay to keep IE on their versions of windows because they can't be assed to discontinue their legacy software that depend on IE or ActiveX or whatever ancient component requires IE
>>105567712 (OP)I've tried to use the IE that comes with windows 10 and every page just opens a new edge window, what the fuck is it even there for?

The internet is still a place to explore. Microsoft is just trying to help us remember this.
>>105567712 (OP)yep. still use IE at work
>>105568654Imagine it is the year 2032 and all the other major browsers have been ruined by an endless stream of enshitification and everyone goes back to ie11 the superior browser and ms continues to patch ie forever
>>105568710There are no useful features for browsers since 2015, so yes it would be good.
>>105568710netsurf and dillo are a thing
>>105568683My school still uses ActiveX for their interactive slide show
>>105569002trident is probably still better than anything after gecko, webkit and blink. servo maybe someday
>>105568710What I want to see in 2032:
33% IE11 market share
33% Opera 12 market share
33%Konqueror (KHTML) market share

In retrospect, was Internet Explorer really all that bad? It's main sin that led people to despise it was that it was being developed way to slowly which meant that you couldn't use the latest HTML toys in your website. However, I think Google Chrome has the opposite problem in which it is being developed too fast and competition can't keep up, Microsoft literally had to stop developing EdgeHTML and lots of pages render incorrectly in Safari and Firefox because developers are way to eager to implement the latest shiny HTML toy that only works in Chrome. Say what you will about Adobe Flash but at least it rendered the same in every web browser and decentralized control of the web
>>105569226Ironically Chrome just is working on anti-features like manifest v3 or WEI or Topics API, and dropping useful improvements like JPEG XL
Only the iexplore.exe launcher has been patched to open Edge instead. The real IE engine is still there, at least until 2029. Too many embedded apps use it. Statcounter reveals that around 1 in every 1000 web requests are still coming from IE based software.
4chan still has some code making most of the website render properly on old versions of Internet Explorer. However, clicking [Post a Reply] does nothing and for some reason the catalog doesn't work so while you can still read 4chan on old versions of IE you can no longer post on it. Things that are different in IE are that clicking a file opens it in a new window instead of expanding it and there is no drop-down menu beside each post (you would click the checkbox and press the delete or report button at the bottom of the page). A certain other website also renders properly on old versions of IE if you use the right address.
>>105568710without ublock ie is dead as a doornail but I miss ie6 to this day. tabs where a mistake
>>105569410Google just has to monopolize everything, even including image formats
>>105569226Chrome was officially classified as malware by every antivirus in existence due to aggresive shilling by the means of bundleware.
>>105569924Google still hasn't changed today, now they're making setting themselves as the default search engine mandatory for device vendors who want to pre-install the Google Play store and is paying Apple billions to make themselves their default search engine. That's really how they became so dominant. Monopolist behavior, and of course the DOJ is late to prosecute them as they always are
