What would it take for Linux to just work?
competent engineers and leadership, a consistent vision and motivation to bring it to fruition

user level needs an authoritarian dictator like linus at the kernel level

Pretty sure there is a vid of Linus calling this years ago
>>105571330 (OP)literally just installing it without having some weird niche use case

given the direction Apple went, you might just need to wait it out before linux distros become the best looking ones
I don't use Linux, but I tried few Linux distros before, for fun. I had no problems with them just working.

>>105571643Normal distros don't strip out FOSS software that may or may not be patented elsewhere.

You can easily get that if you use a stable distro and not use Gnome as the DE. I think Immutable distros are getting more popular because it's retard proof and the steam deck will easy bitch ass casuals into it more.
