Linux / BSD : Can literally customize everything

Apple (based on BSD) : Can literally not even change your system font

It's too bad Apple doesnt have some 'tweak tool' for power users.

it does, it is even possible to bring back 3d dock and other shit. for that u need to disable system integrity protection and you can whatever you want quite literally.

I googled it last night and people made it sound impossible, or that the UI would look shit cuz it wasnt designed for a different font.

well, yeah, it would generally look like shit, because nobody cares about that - not that many people would bother disabling SIP for the sake of changing system font or making a custom theme for window manager, or something.
that is why it "just werks" - once you block user for doing anything with important system files, you provide no access to firmware, and you generally lock and restrict everything - then suddenly your operating system and device just works as intended without stupid user-created problems.
it's a tradeoff and people who use macs generally just accept that trade-off and are initially not willing to fuck around with system settings, drivers, overclocks, and everything else

changing the font VS overclocking isnt even in the same ballpark.

More like 99.99999999% of Mac users never thought about it in the first place. Apple tells them what they want and they just bend over and take it, zero questions asked.

I know that apple likes to have their branded look on everybody's desktop, but I remember hearing, back when theming was a thing, that it was a good path for exploits, so perhaps that has something to do with it too.

>oh my god. ever day i just marvel at what an amazing $1,499 laptop this is

when you can get the exact same look in KDE or probably even Gnome (spit)

though I must say, the mac keyboard is very nice

this is one of the things that sucks about open source.

>spend hours laboring on code
>fixing bugs
>literally countless hours of stress
>be nice person, give code to world
>world gives you noting back
>megacorp uses your code for their own profit
>doesnt credit you, email you, pay you a dime
>doesnt even give you 'free Windows' license for life
>thx for the code chud

not really. it has freebsd's userspace stuff like ls, but the rest of the system (like 99% of the whole) is their own shit.
>Can literally not even change your system font
maybe not in quartz, but iirc you can just use a different display sever. maybe that's changed recently.

actually the one thing the world will give you back is endless (free nonpaid) users bitching that your software is slow or has some bug or needs to add some feature
