hasn't evolved since it began. most of the software for it still requires java in current year of our lord. slow as fuck because people set their outgoing bandwidth to 10kb/s making it useless for torrents.

oh that explains it. I think the default setting for i2pd is either that or 100 kbps

Better than Tor technologically due to the ability to pass UDP traffic and human readable domains

Needs proper and total qbittorrent support along with a button to be a node in qbit along with basic settings, along with automatic all torrent forwarding through i2p and it will take off like crazy.

It wasn't researched enough, that's its biggest problem. It's not battle tested like Tor. Like Roger Dingledine said, there's some features that make it much safer than Tor and there's some features that make it completely broken, and we don't know which one is which.
I went to the I2P docs to check the threat model article and it's still the same page from a decade ago when I first read it. That's rough. If I had more free time I'd contribute to the project because I've always believed in the potential.

I like it. Smart people behind the project. While I agree that it's very slow it works.

I use I2P+, it's a fork of I2P. I2P+ is superior to Tor because the more people use the etwork the more resistance I2P+ sites are to DDoS attacks.

Would have been better than Tor with the same userbase and academic attention
Is very based for being designed as a self-contained darknet rather than as a glorified clearnet proxy, which eliminates a lot of threat vectors and encourages correct and secure usage. But unfortunately most normies just want to access the clearnet anyway so Tor is what got popular, and as a result Tor is what people know and use even for darknet sites

What I'm really annoyed at is the fact that there are no good mixnet projects. There's one that's tied to cryptocurrency for some unfathomable reason and that's it. It's a vastly better design for actually secure and private communication, avoid almost all side-channels and traffic analysis attacks, with the only downside being more latency which doesn't matter that much if you really need to use the dark web. And yet still nobody has ever bothered making one.
