Absolutely. Time savings, headache savings, I won't say to go for shiny stuff all the time, but like ensuring that your machine is capable, stable, fast, quiet. Ugh I can't stress enough how much better it makes life, I'm pretty sure I'm getting better grades in part just due to having a non-shit computer setup now. I can't even stress this enough. I don't know exactly where the upper limit for spending is, but there is definitely a lower limit, and it is drastic if you need it for doing anything critical.

Not really because all I do is goof off and play some games. Still, I only had a shitty 8th gen Intel laptop before and its not like I went for an x3d CPU so I don't feel as if I overspecced and just straight up wasted money. Was fun to build though :) Except the Intel cooler. Whoever designed the stock intel cooler can get nuked by Iran.

Not x86.
No good storage upgrade path.
Will be dieded as soon as the battery starts inflating.
And while I don't like Windows, very rarely ocassionally I need it.

If you're gaming, doing 3D modeling and analysis, or heavy video editing, around $1000 is literally the entry point and yes it will be worth it.

If you don't do any of those, you don't need more than a laptop.

You know how women recoil when they see your 14yo generic mintower with lots of lbtqa+ stickers on it running arch?
They don't do that when its a good quality and fast machine in a recent case running windows.

I didn't spend that much but it still wasn't worth it. I just play classic early to mid 2000s video games on my laptop. The gaming PC is just for collecting dust.

$1k is nothing for a pc. You should have asked about $2-3k or something moar specific than the fucking price.

OP is underage (and a faggot) and thinks 1k is a lot.

Literally forgot all about the Cyrix 6x86. Had to look it up. They optimized the instruction pipeline for integer arithmetic and then got left in the dust when it couldn't run Quake. Interesting history.

Considering that most cases are objectively just complete garbage either in terms of build quality, airflow or most often both, I can't say I blame him.

Always start with your use case first, look at the things that you actually do every day that you canโ€™t find alternatives for, then spec your hardware that gives you the performance you want.

I got caught up in the shiny new shit and probably use 20-30% of my systems capabilities max.

Certain things are worth the money like a quality standing desk (more so to get the exact ergonomics right), monitor arm for more space, good OLED monitor, etc, but I find people really over spec performance just to play league of legends or some random stream indie game.

Spec to your use case.

A brand new gaming PC that can play most games at high 1080p60fps doesn't even cost $1000

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CWKf4p

And you have the ability to sell your parts and upgrade in the future to 90% of the power of an AM5 build because the 5800X3D is only 10-15% slower than a 7800X3D.

Bought it in 2019, in 2025 it still just werks, does everything, plays everything. I'm glad I got a 2080 before GPU prices became retarded.
