large_adobe_photoshop_cs6_update_Screenshot_348768943_788b6ef7f8
I just installed my new setup and I'm looking to install some image editing software. I used to run CS6 in my older laptop but I'm looking for anything more recent although similar since I'm used to it.
What programs would you recommend to me?

Can you articulate WHY you need to updoot to the latest version if the old version works and you like it? If not, stop being a mindless updooter.

I still use a portable version of CS6 from 2012. Adobe only ever increased the hardware requirements but never added useful features.
The only reason you'd upgrade is because the authentication servers are gone, so you either crack it or buy the new one.

I've been using photopea lately but I'd rather have a dedicated program on my gear

>so you either crack it
Been doing that since HS, maybe I'd do again

Same recommendations as above so I guess it's really worth a try.

I still have CC 2018 installed. I tried 2021 out and it is so much fucking slower to launch. Versions after that removed the Pantone colors too. And besides, if you're using a cracked one, the AI generative fill shit doesn't work for free anymore. If I still had my copy of CC 2015 installed I'd honestly still be using that, and arguably nothing I do with Photoshop requires features introduced after CS6. Hell I have Audition CC 2015.2 because it could still export 7.1ch E-AC3, then Adobe dropped exporting to Dolby formats.

Just use photoshop like every other sane person on the entire planet.. why do you need an alternative to the industry standard that literally just works for literally just everything.

Affinity Photo is basically a modern CS6 Photoshop, with a non subscription based model. Canva might murder it now that they own it, but hopefully it will be archived for prosperity the same way cracks keep the good old versions of Adobe products in circulation.

Why? I'm asking unironically. I use CS6 because I'm used to it and it does everything I need. I run it on new computers too.

It's best to stick with CS6 because that's the last version before their cloud faggotry and it still works. There is no reason to change.

However in addition to this, maybe test out Krita. It also has connectivity with ComfyUI so you can test out image genning and use your own creations as base.

Nice, just found that there's a "smart fill" plugin for Gimp. It really should come out of the box, Photoshop's had it for over a decade.

There's nothing beyond CS6 that people need.

Has dark mode.
Has auto generated fill.

Photopea is pretty slow on large images.
Krita text tools still suck.
Gimp workflows are high friction.
Affinity Photo is hell to run in wine.

I do believe Krita will be competitive soon though.

Unlikely, text is very difficult. Thereโ€™s a reason why fonts suck in linux til this day.

Just keep pirating Photoshop or switch to Affinity Photo. It's like $50, one time fee for the version you buy, just like adobe used to do with Creative Suite. You can upgrade to the next version for a discount, at least so far (they're on v2 now). But it's by far the best Photoshop alternative. They have a good Illustrator competitor too, and even good mobile apps. Check it out, there's a trial if you're curious. I'm still more comfortable with Photoshop, but I've been using that for like 15+ years and only have a couple years on Affinity so far. But it's a pretty easy transition and I'd much rather support these guys than Adobe.

I use cc15 because it has better content aware fill than cs6. Used to have CS6 for a long time.

Canon's Digital Photo Professional (free) is very similar to Adobe Lightroom.

There's also Paint Shop Pro and Corel Draw which can be very cheap when it shows up on humble bundle. Just pay a few extra bucks to upgrade to ultimate.

There's some other stuff that's not well known like PhotoPosPro for like $50, or just get paint.net
