Samsung is terrible. After Blackberry disappeared, I used LG for 15 years- intuitive and the least number of button presses as possible. Switched to Galaxy after LG exited the phone market. Its all hopeless shit. UI 7 is garbage and I will never forgive Samsung for making my icons round. LG gave me square icons and didnt unilaterally rearrange my life.

The pill shape does nothing to indicate that it represents the battery. It's just an abstract pill with a number inside it. Were it not for convention that the battery icon is always at the top right, nobody would guess that it indicates the remaining charge.
My 68-year-old dad was just as confused at first because it's right next to 5G and he wasn't sure if it represents signal strength.
I cannot wait for skeuomorphism to be back in fashion.
