In the paid sub you can set wake times and it will adjust temperature based on your sleep cycles so you get the optimal amount of sleep then raise the temp to wake you 'naturally'. I got a different one of these a few years ago (much cheaper, mine was around $400, no sub). The one I got just lets me program a generic schedule but even then it makes a massive difference in sleep quality, one of the best things I've ever bought. I thought about getting an 8sleep until I saw the price + ongoing sub, shit is actually insane.
