>respects your privacy
>allows you to remain truly anonymous
>less resource intensive than Discord
>has a million of features that Discord does not have and has all the ones that Discord does have.
I don't understand how it hasn't broken through the mainstream yet? I also don't understand how theres people that still use telegram taking into account how it's a fed honeypot now and is just absolutely worthless besides being used as a newsletter and for sharing porn.

I got my close circle to use Element with my own homeserver. I don't see why I should care what the "mainstream" does.

My circle uses it. Helpful because it has different clients for whatever use case (they all use the Matrix protocol). Schildichat is a similar one. There are terminal based ones too if you are into that. Better than IRC because of chat history and modern features. I think its a lack of awareness.

Elementโ€™s security (verifying devices and such) is sometimes annoying but whatever.

The arguments against Element I have heard are:
>developed by an israeli company
>matrix.org (the "main" homeserver used by most people) is controlled by this same company
>if anyone on matrix.org joins a channel, the metadata for that channel is cloned to matrix.org (even end-to-end encrypted channels)

I installed the 2 GB flatpak via flatpakref file and it worked.
Then I downloaded the 150 MB tarball, and it worked, too.
I removed the 2 GB flatpak.

okay but are they true? regardless even if it were true you can just host your own server and i haven't joined any channels only private conversations another concern would be if my metadata is stored if i have a conversation with someone that is using matrix.org even though im hosting my own

How am I "elitist" by saying I don't give a fuck what everyone else does?
If "everyone" is perfectly happy to eat shit (and from what I can see, the majority of people are), I'm not gonna try to stop them.
>wouldn't it be better if
Yes, wouldn't life be just wonderful if everyone else just... did things *our* way? Let us hold each other's cocks and dream of such a world, ah yes.

If my post is true, I believe matrix.org would store your metadata. I could be misremembering however.

Discord is generic too but nobody searches for discord as a word. Element meanwhile is a common word.
