it's not a competition, if windows works for normies that's great, they can stay the hell out of my tech ecosystem, I don't want normies using BSD and linux and demanding everything be made normieproof

Too late they already made Linux for normalfags with systemd and gnome. You can thank Freedesktop, Microsoft, IBM, the NSA and US DoD for that. FreeBSD is next.

Microsoft has ruined and set back computing by decades already. They are the reason we're all not running TRON, Plan9 or anything that isn't NT and crappy UNIX clones.

The vast majority of PC users have been using a Microsoft-based operating system since the inception of the IBM 5150. I'll never care as long as I'm capable of running another OS.

Nobody that uses their prefered OS by choice says that.
Only the ones that have no options because of lack of skill, like yourself for example.

Depends. IT midwits generally like it, devs forced to learn how to use it usually get filtered hard. It's always so fucking funny to see.
Funnily enough I've found that (competent) boomers usually have an easy time with it since most of them owned a computer in the DOS era.

Yeah it's nothing new if you've been around cmd in the past. Still every second I save not fucking around with OS at home is second I can spend doing something like gaming or watchan, so no way I'm doing Linux anymore, moment I became over 30 feels like days got halved already and it's only getting worse.
At work it doesn't matter, in fact the more time I spend mucking around, the better, I get paid the same.

Steam is a subscription, if the service goes down your games are gone. The only difference is that you only pay a one-time fee per game.
Then again "buying" games has never really been a thing, you're just buying a license for the game :^)

My first experience with computers was a (already obsolete) Tandy 1000 when I was 5 years old. I couldn't really read yet. But I do remember my dad buying it for $50 from a family friend then failing to get it working. I watched him type WHAT THE FUCK into the command line. But I knew this pile of big ass floppy disks had games on it. I was determined to get it working. A visual manual for how to use the computer was included with it. I summoned all my autism powers and started trying all the commands from the pictures. I didn't know how to do cd .. so every time I wanted to go back a directory I reset the computer. But I mastered it all. From booting DOS from a floppy to executing games. This is why I make fun of people on this board who are afraid of CLI. I did that shit before I was in kindergarten. No excuses.

Remember how many people cried about Windows 8?
Yeah, I do, they cried so hard they stuck to using Windows 7, which was still supported, 8.1 ended up somewhat mature by 8.1 but eventually they just wrapped up what worked into Windows 10 and slowly built on it, it got "good" after like 4 years of updates, but you know what happened? It kept updating, beyond that, more ads, more of the metro and Nutella philosophy.
A late stage Windows 10 install feels like shit to use out of the box compared to one that's been upgraded through 7, 8, & early 10 because it hits you all at once how awful everything is, how long it takes to tinkertroon around it, how everything is phased and staged.
11 is the same way with a more "streamlined" ux, some elements still work, some are copy pasted verbatim to the point that elements in group policy are still named 10 and haven't been updated and some are getting removed.
Recall hangs on the edge, UX performance is slow as shit, people have ads in their OS, more than before.

And when it's disabled it's "not bad" it's the best Windows Server has been since the Vista server days before the 7 aids infested that.
But it's so much tinkertrooning to get it useable for those slight performance benefits, some things not being there compared to linux that it's essentially just what nvidia users who want to use integer scaling are forced into using.

Compare that to linux, where you likely already have your scripts, you have a list of packages you'll install, a one pass, quick system update, changes to your kernel parameters and maybe a quick reboot if you really need the kernel update for something like a new GPU.
It's worlds apart, you're not sitting there waiting for windows updates to process, then on reboot changing group policy, running through notifications, services, applying registry tweaks to expose proper power options.
Windows became the tinker troon os more so than linux, when you're slower than KDE, all you have are legacy GUIs
