and smartphones didnt do the same thing?
kek
it's probably the opposite too but it all depends on knowing how to prompt.
for example you could get it to explain a highschool subject concept to you in the style of a zoomer. if you asked it to.
the zoomer is actually going to read the content if it appeals to him, and maybe he can understand it better if the LLM can use an allegory that relates back to his generation/peer group.
that's a good teaching tool, if it actually gets him learning.
but it's not used like that. it's demonized, and people are emotional. skill issue, pebkac.

This just in: "Experts" say that calculator users have lower brain activity than "brain users" who calculate calculus by hand.

That's how stupid AI deniers sound desu.

How often are people doing calculus, retard? And yes I would say that calculators have made people less math proficient. Now with AI they will be less life proficient.

WIndows XP literally gets more threads and posts than AI. That should say it all. Most people aren't "using" AI. AI pics are just showing up in their Facebook feed and Google Gemini is now the first thing that pops up when you ask a question.

>coding
maybe if you depend on it to do everything for you, which is easy to fall into.
but as far as learning, its still a great tool ie;
"how can i do this function in this language"
depending on how specific the function is, you'd have a hard time finding a good enough tutorial or example to replicate. while the llm is most likely producing working code from multiple sources of people who just never bothered or had the time to write about their implementations.

a lot of people complain about tutorials too, how theres nothing "intermediate" and its mostly aimed at beginners or genius architect researchers. this creates a middle ground for that.

As usual, a certified skill issue. AI is a tool and like any other tool using it properly requires and implies a minimum baseline competence. If you've been raised by an ipad instead of your parents and got socialised by discord and instagram it isn't AI that's making you dumber, the truth is for you the game wasn't even rigged from the start, it was over before you were born.

I love discussing my ultra-niche interests with chatgpt and learning new things in the process. I talk to LLMs about politics.
They're not overly sensitive to critiques of neoliberalism which means they're better than the average everyman who has spent the last 45-50 years worshipping it.

Philosophy, politics, medical issues are where it shines.
