>>105639765I dunno if they did aperture synthesis method but if they were, then they would have numerous small telescopes around the world to emulate a massive earth-sized telescope. A lot of maths is involved to synthesise the signals received by all the small telescopes into the image that the large telescope would have seen.
It's interferometry except you can't get the light rays to meet up so instead you need to use quantum physics to simulate how those light rays would interfere. You need to measure the phase of all the light signals from all these telescopes and feed it into a supercomputer that can perform the quantum physics simulation to ultimately obtain the true image. At least that's what I remember my high school physics teacher saying.
