Hobbiests in Japan see it as a good thing to spend money to support the things you like, it's why you get people buying 50 CDs/Photobooks for idols they like. It's also why they spend more on gacha than "global" combined in mobile games etc.

The Wii U was a massive failure and even people that loved it like me knew that. Switch was incredible and they learned from that mistake with the Switch 2 which also seems to be successful. Are you really complaining they brought in a more successful CEO? The quality of their games hasn't suffered, if anything it's improved, they still care about quality control as evidenced by Prime 4 getting canned and rebuilt from the start. You clearly just have a grudge against Nintendo for some reason, companies aren't your friends, you should stop fanboying

Digital distribution is fairly successful in Japan, just look at the comics market.
For games they had digital distribution via kiosks in the 80s and 90s.

Probably the same reason why I started burning blurays.
Physical media and stuff in general feels more valuable, I appreciate it more and I also remember it clearer.
I could have 100 read ebooks that I forget, but the one tangible paper book is committed to memory and is always visible on shelf to keep it fresh.
Also maybe if you have physical stuff you consume less "content"?
I've read thousands of manga by now and probably couldn't name 10% of them.
The few I have in physical I can recall the entire plot and page layouts for.
Also no need to worry about losing it in your digital hoard.

How is Palworld a ripoff aside from some designs? It's a completely different game from Pokemon.
And no Nintendo is by far the worst. They even tried to copyright capturing monsters at one point.
Not to mention any of their copyright shit. You can bare even have a few seconds of footage in your videos or mention switch emulation without getting your videos striked. On top of all the fantranslation or mods for games they didn't care about for decades and will never rerelease.

It's the result of living in a small country with a tight-knit sense of community. No matter where you're located delivery is same day or you can jump on a train to be anywhere in a matter of minutes or at most a couple of hours. You can buy exclusive limited edition stuff easily provided you show up on time. The idols and people producing the content interact with the public more often and are expected to do as part of their job. The yen is not strong but the price of things like food, eating out and buying stuff like BDs and figures hasn't risen that much. Well figures have increased a bit but it's still within the means of someone with a low wage job. It's a shame culture that sees stealing (even through pirating) as shameful. People want to support the industry with their wallet to keep the industry pumping out content that they like. The industry hasn't pandered to much to the demands of outsiders (at least not in the domestic market although anime is getting kind of bad lately). Typically, things like anime BDs have uncensored and errors fixed in scenes compared to the broadcast/streaming version. They also include a lot of extras like interviews and extra audio tracks in episodes with seiyuus and artists. Manga is still cheap as fuck and hasn't pandered to gaijin sensibilities/censorship. Every series has an ungoldy amount of merchandise mostly limited edition/exclusive to certain stores. Things like pop-up shops and keychains.

>>105639350
They are still good for series people like. Gushing over Magical Girls sold a ton of copies before they were even stamped. Pre-orders are still used to gauge interest in another season and everyone knows it. They're still willing to buy them at those high prices for limited editions provided they aren't censored.

The real cash cow now though is other types of merchandise. Figures, pop-ups shops with cardboard cut outs and tons of trinkets and other stuff. Otaku will go without food to afford this stuff.

(cont.)

The last important thing is the doujin scene. Companies like Nintendo sue gaijin that try to rip off their IP. But in Japan they know better than to bother the doujin scene and their cons. There are so many creators selling fan works of popular content and IP within the Japan doujin scene and it's tolerated. Since this is how most new original content is discovered and how new artists and creators break in to the entertainment industry. Fans spend ungodly amounts of cash for doujin every year and it keeps popular series relevant because there is always new doujin content being shared.

The Japanese love digital sharing too as long as it's "legal". But anything they truly love they want physical media of. Both to support the creator and to collect. Most people don't stop at buying just one copy of this stuff either. They buy at least 2 and usually 3.

One to read. One to keep in the original package and one to spread the gospel.

I'm not sure why you people defend an obvious rip-off of Pokemon so much. The game was pretty shit from what I saw of it anyway.

The real crimes of Nintendo are far worse. Like the patent they held/hold on d-pads. Which ensured every other controller produced for decades had a shitty d-pad. Or the high prices they were charging for their "seal of quality" in the NES days which put a bunch of small publishing houses in the poor house.

Japanese business world is crooked as fuck but they're just playing the hand they were dealt. It's mostly the result of being a vassal start to the US's Federal Reserve system. They're just playing the game as best they can.

If it wasn't for gaijin shady business practices we'd all be using something other than UNIX/NT/iOS right now. The US Government placed sanctions on the Japanese Government back in the late 80s-early 90s and tanked he Japanese economy for decades. All because they wanted to use their own OS/kernel on the PCs being used in the Japanese school system and later wanted to export them to the world. Then in the 2000s the exact same thing happened in the cell phone market. They tried to create a new OS to unify their cell phone market domestically. Apple, Microsoft and their friends in the US Government threatened to sanction them again. Then forced them to adopt iPhone+Android. This despite the fact that they had what was basically smart phones and a modern cell network in their country since 2001.

If I'd lived through the lost decades and knew it was due to the gaijin meddling I wouldn't have any issue using the same bullshit laws to prevent them from copying my IP either. Turn about is fair play.

Wow such an amazing concept. An MMO where you raise pokemon rip-offs. I'm sure the grind and the constantly clicking GUI elements was so engaging and fun!

If they'd published it as a doujin work Nintendo wouldn't have cared. Even if they were selling it at cost to cover the costs of making discs. They smacked them down with lawsuit because they were attempting to turn it into on-going business like gacha. They even tried to use the lawsuit as publicity.

I have no sympathy for all these dumb faggots that release Nintendo rip offs, ROM hacks and exploits for consoles to softmod them. They always do it under their real names. They always attempt to profit from it. They always sit on exploits for years or report them to Nintendo for clout instead of simply releasing them for everyone to enjoy. That's the difference between now and years ago. Back in the day people weren't fucking stupid and didn't try to profit from these things. They released them to the internet under a pseudonym on places where they couldn't be censored. They didn't find exploits and do dumb shit like
>We found exploit for Switch 2. We're not sharing it though but it involves doing <x> then <y> because the exploit is in <z>.
or
>we're going to release an exploit we found with limitations. Since it should ONLY be used for "homebrew" and not piracy. We've already reported it to Nintendo btw. Please send me donations.

Act like faggots get treated like faggots. It isn't an hard concept to understand.
