DRM. they use widewine in the browser and on android and probably the apple equivalent on your ipad. These threads keep popping up because reddit is really good at detecting ban evasion* and then I finally figured it out after I saw a post by a brave user asking why reddit needed widewine permissions.
*serious ban evasion, they don't give a fuck about casual ban evasion.

clear all cookies. change your IP address. use an html canvas spoofer browser plugin + user agent spoofer. if you do this you can successful ban evade. i've done it dozens of times.

No, they are. And no, it can't be easily evaded. If you sign up from behind a VPN and with a privacy focused browser they'll shadowban you right away. They tolerate som ban evasion for subreddit bans, but not for proper reddit bans.
