Is it possible to broadcast AM radio from my bedroom without a boatload of cash?
Is HAM the closest I’m gonna get for cheap?
I read somewhere about CB radios being approved to broadcast FM in 2021 or something like that, but I’m not sure how this stuff works. Just started researching.

Late reply but anything with decent power requires a license

Yes. Radio Shack used to sell AM broadcast kits for a few dollars and most department stores sold "Mr. Microphone" which could broadcast on nearby radios.
That said, if you want to be legal, there are power limits you must respect. The FCC generally doesn't care about ham band drama but if you start interfering with the commercial broadcast band, they will ass fuck you with an ICBM coated with sandpaper.

If you want a radio with any sort of music at all, you're gonna have to go the pirate radio route. I literally see no point in ham radio if you're not a massive pussy who gets off on following rules (type of people who play high rp ss13 servers kek). I'm still planning it all out with my mate but do you think it would be more or less dangerous to use an unused commercial band? I wouldn't mind using a ham band and we're completely noncommercial but I already know those nerdy ham sods would try and locate our receiver (they call it fox hunting) and shut it down like the goody two shoes they are. I don't know how much ofcom cares about pirates nowadays especially with digital radio but I might have to use their bands if I want it to work on a normal radio.

AM requires a stupid huge antenna. Why not get a chink 5w FM transmitter instead? They're maybe $20. Make a j-pole antenna tuned to 88.5, there's never anything at that frequency. It'll go for miles.
