Why is the FOSS alternative to Photoshop so terrible? Nobody in the actual graphical editing industry uses this piece of shit software, as opposed to many other FOSS alternatives that are actually popular. At this point Krita is becoming the default alternative to Photoshop that people recommend because Gimp refuses to improve in any way

i downloaded gimp 3.0 because i heard one of the big new features was being able to outline text, which excited me because i remembered constantly having to do janky work arounds to get it done. But then I discovered that the new text "outline" tool doesn't outline the text at all, it fills the text instead. that alone is proof that the FOSS retards running gimp have never spoken to an end user in years

Clip Studio Paint is a good alternative to PS, a lot of people use it

GIMP can be a Photoshop alternative if you only do really basic stuff, but I don't think it can be used for any serious work.
The fact that they added non-destructive editing a few months ago should tell you everything you need to know about its quality.

Channel editing with converting them to layer is a hacky solution

Faggots constantly whine and complain that it isn't a Photoshop replacement when Photoshop doesn't even have a viable commercial replacement, which is an asinine standard to hold a community project to, and when you bring up the one genuinely good aspect of GIMP (its extensibility), they just whine and complain that it does its own thing instead of trying to be compatible with Photoshop plugins.

I've used more GIMP than any sane human being ever should and I could spend days bitching about how bad it is, but artfags' critique of it still somehow manages to be stupid, it always boils down to "I'm not used to it". It's like hearing someone start to rant about they hate jeets, and you expect to agree with them, but instead they talk about inane and meaningless shit like the geographical shape of the continent or the number of limbs one of their fake gods has. Because of this you can't bring up reasonable apps like Krita, they will straight up tell you to kill yourself for bringing up software they haven't even tried. Pure histrionics.

The one and only reason this is true is because GIMP 3 took so long to release that the plugin ecosystem shriveled up and died. 2.x actually had quite a few useful plugins.
More importantly, making your own plugins and scripts in GIMP is easy and fun. Or at least it used to be.

Absolute trvke. foss still has a looooong way to go. Blender does not even have a C api, python only. Really limits advanced plugins from ever becoming a thing. And, worse yet the benevolent dictator in charge is a GPL schizo and won't tolerate interfaces for proprietary plugins.
