My calligraphy was always shit, but I can write cursive.
I think everybody here in Brazil, at least from my generation, can, since we leave non-cursive behind really early in our education.

You should be able to hold that amount of code in your head without it down.

I had a teacher at uni who hated giant code, so his tests were all written on paper. In Java...
Some programmes were 15 pages long.
This was how I learnt not to duplicate code and to write proper classes.

This is guy is baiting.
But itโ€™s a good habit to formulate the solution in your head before writing it down.
It trains your brain.
Educators went too far with โ€œyou should write it downโ€ advice.

Good for beginners, but as you progress it's too inefficient to write code on paper. It transitions into a good tool for visualization, brainstorming, and mapping your thoughts.

Real programmers use pen & paper for proofs, not for writing code they have to then type into their computer.

>proofs
Real programmers aren't cucked ancient greek cultists. Experimental evidence / "proof certificates" are good enough I don't need factor 2^google^google - 1 to prove that my program is correct

writing out the syntax seems really stupid, but it might be good for remembering it.
i have "written" programs out on paper a lot but its usually abstract system thinking like a mindmap and writing out the steps i invision things doing and working together.
that's SO much easier to do via scribbling on paper than mind map software or drawing programs.
