Youtube is embarrassing itself by keeping this archaic design while its competitors are innovating the shit out of video playback. Google is cheaping out. It's that outdated design and not the ads or censorship that have pushed users away into the arms of the competition. Sooner or later they'll realize how important innovative design is and step into the 2020s like the rest of us, but it might be too late by then.

That's lazy. People need to interact with the content and the community more. Comments with timestamps need to block out the video completely during playback in order to make sure that the viewer reads it. Also, a chime needs to play every time that happens to call the user's attention to the screen, in case he's just listening or doing something else at the time. User interaction is important for web page growth.

YouTube is being super fucking gay forcing me to log in calling me a bot. Apparently they've been going crazy over the past few weeks trying to crack down on everything from downloader to adblockers to alternate apps to VPNs to just not logging in. I feel like they IP banned me or something even though I actually do watch some ads at least on my phone.

Youtube has steadily gotten worse over the past few years. It doesn't need to be updated except for new codecs.

I've even noticed that the pages slow down and get less responsive as you watch videos, and the main way to fix it is to just open something in a new tab. Reactive design and the whole site basically being an applet rather than a series of pages has been a disaster

yea, i found it after using invidious for a while but grew frustrated that public instances were not very reliable. i looked into running invidious myself since you can also do that, but then found this which is much simpler and does the job for single-user purposes
