>>105666928 (OP)Current AI development is on track to give us a future that is somwhere on a spectrum.
On one end of the spectrum you have AI development being slow and within our lifetime only making the internet unusable and putting massive train on our electric grid for almost 0 benefit. Lot of the medial AI that is saving lives is for the most part very much separated from the everyday Generative AI that for the most part just spams internet with garbage. And even said medical and research AI systems are highly overrated. Alphafold didnt make drug development 2 times faster, and lot of the systems used for diagnosing diseases do well in test environments but sometimes fuck up more then regular doctors in edge cases that were not in the training data.
On the other end of the spectrum you have AGI and perfected robotics automating all jobs, making all people unemployed and left to starve. UBI is a stupid system that will not work long term and the argument of "but who will buy stuff if everyone is unemployed?" is dumb. When people cant buy anything then businesses that sell stuff to people will go bankrupt, but businesses that pivot to selling to AI companies will survive. Field used for growing corn and then selling it to cow farms so people can eat beef will instead sell the corn to ethanol plants so that they can then use it to generate more electricity for the AI. UBI in this equation is just a state mandated socialism where companies are robbed their money so that the same money can then be given back to them for resource exchange, which in terms of market forces is perverted and will eventually lead to extermination of the massive leeching class.
Both scenarios fucking suck and are significant downgrade from what we had before AI, and even middle spectrum scenarios where everyone works some terrible manual labor for third worlder wage and then go home to watch AI generated movies while you wait for robotics to get you extinct is even worse.
