I'd personally pick the iMac, but you might have a need for portability.

Same performance, you are only choosing between portability and no portability. I use macbook+monitor myself. You can also go monitor+mini (with TB-dock for extra m2 ssd) combo.

MacBook Air and it's no contest. If you want a desktop option, get either a Mac mini, in which case that would be no contest if you don't care about portability.
