Used to be that all you needed was jQuery and maybe an image carousel script or something, now every single website is bogged down with some gigantic frontend framework because the entire fucking industry is led by monkeys that just look at what Facebook and Google are doing and copy it without thinking about whether or not it makes sense for their business needs and userbase. A regional residential electricity site doesn't need 5 front-end developers highly specialized in fucking React or Angular, that's absolutely retarded for a website that serves realistically <100k people a month.

I use two online marketplaces every day. Both serve the same exact purpose, they do pretty much exactly the same thing. One of them works perfectly fine on my 14 year old laptop, the other one lags even on my modern PC.

It's actually amazing how much of the development was sponsored by big companies because they're sick and tired of paying a gorillion dollar subscriptions to Autodesk every year.

True, but the problem is that for every site you have clients wanting to turn the place into a e-shop where you can make accounts and sign up on shit and while you are at it how about allowing you to post comments and may as well have some items for sale. Oh and also the managers kid is bright with tech so give him an account so they can use the WYSWYG editor to update the site. Oh you don't have such an editor? I'm hiring a different programmer then, clearly you are unprofessional.

I mean it doesn't start as one but you get just 1 more request like that every few months until everything is up there.

So in the long run it's simpler on your nerves to just install some dumb ass framework.

I've been on 16GB since 2012. Had only 4GB before that, or maybe even just 2GB, I forgot. RAM prices were super good around the time so I could afford to not just do a small upgrade but get a massively oversized RAM pool.

It's been 13 fucking years and I still don't really feel the need to get more. Yeah, the task manager says I'm idling at 10GB, but I never got any problems, and I can just close the browser and steam and now I only use half as much memory.

I don't use Chrome though, maybe that's why it's not an issue. I do hope I get to put 64GB in my next machine, but prices are not good yet.

without a memory mapper, the NES could address 32k of program memory and 8k of sprite data (graphics). super mario bros. is an early game made without a mapper, so those were the limits it was made with
there are far, far larger NES games that came laters once mappers and memory cost came down

How is it that the entire software industry doesn't understand its own tools now?
>webdevs can't write basic HTML, don't know how to into SQL, don't know how to write perl, php or any other scripting language for server side, don't know how to into CSS and javascript (javascript is cancer). All of them need multiple frameworks and embed third party scripts.
>System programmers can't into C, can't into assembly, can't into making GUI without a fucking browser engine

I really don't get it. This shit isn't hard. I understand why the grey beards used to laugh at us for not knowing the finer details of what the CPU was doing.

Every generation of "programmers" becomes further and further removed from how the computer actually works. By the time I'm 80 no one will probably be able to maintain the kernels any longer and they'll just be spooky black box no one understands but everyone bolts their shit on top of anyway. Just another dependency.

WTF are these people even paying for degrees for?

>the only software which has actually evolved over time are productivity apps
I'll argue they've only stagnated or have just gotten worse. OneNote is the only app useful to me but it's so fucking bloated that it's unusable at times. The shit never syncs to my phone when I need it, so I just resort to emailing myself notes and then returning later to scroll through my own inbox. Literally it is so bad that it's just easier to fucking EMAIL myself or write it down.

Every calendar app has the same annoying shit features and lack of innovation. It seems like every day I run into an issue with Google or Outlook calendar. Managing reoccurring events is still a fucking joke. My work Outlook practically fucking crashes when trying to display 3 calendars with maybe only a few hundred events TOTAL. There's still not a feature to just show available timeslots on a particular day.
