firefox is the only browser that has it's own identity - diversity is necessary
it is opensource - you can apply your own patches
the configurability through autoconfig - other browsers have just a limited amount of options through user interface
userChrome.css - mogs other browsers by allowing me to improve the user chrome to my liking
I would like to see a browser that would check at least some of these while not being worse than firefox:
- new lightweight webkit/servo/independent engine browser
- completely open source
- small amount of extra dependencies
- small codebase
- easy to build, no special build tools like firefox - simple makefile or kconfig (menuconfig) would be best
- no unsolicited network connections
- autoconfig or fvwm/*box wm like configuration (preferred)
- no-nonsense browser chrome - classic design, no mobile inspired design
- configurable navigator elements like in firefox by drag and drop or fvwm/*box wm like configuration (preferred)
- module/plugin based architecture for most functionalities, so you can define the capabilities yourself in text config or by menuconfig (if the compile time config makes more sense than text config approach)
- need ublock origin level adblock as a plugin or firefox extensions support or easy way of implementing/porting plugins
the perfect browser would be a new browser like that, have no legacy baggage, designed for efficiency, targeting power users, stupid simple - choosing simplest ways to make something work so the codebase doesn't get too large so users can make changes to it themselves
