You can put those in the same bucket once Tesla stops doing shadowing their robotaxis with a babysit car. Waymo cars aren't actively monitored by a human every second even if remote assistance can be summoned.

They already stopped shadowing yesterday lol. The livestream few people are doing has no shadow car. They did have some remote assistance button that took like few minutes to connect through and had choppy connections due to cell signal issue for that livestream I was watching.

I like the idea but they should let you drive the cars, it could drive itself to your location but after that you can take the wheel and drive it like a rental.

You can lease their car currently. You can also buy their car and have the same self driving software.

This is just a taxi version where you're not in control.

There are no remote drivers and no safety drivers. The car is driving itself 100%. There's a safety monitor and a remote customer services call. But neither are doing anything. From the videos the remote assistant is laggy given poor cell reception. The safety monitor just monitors. They're not driving. They dont control the wheels. They dont control the pedals. They dont have a neuralink inside their brain controlling the car remotely.

In places where riders have a choice between a robo taxi and a service like Uber/Lyft, most riders will pick the robo taxi, even though they're typically more expensive. Customers cited inconsistent service and drivers with unpleasant personalities as the primary reasons for choosing a robo taxi over a human driven one.

>Waymo and Tesla
Never even heard of Waymo before. Is this going to be one of those monopolies like Google Chrome where they keep Mozilla alive to claim they have competition?
I bet Waymo will only be available in like 3 cities.
desu I can't bring myself to hate this though. Probably a hell of a lot cheaper than Uber.
-- POLITICS BEYOND THIS POINT --
Elon is a funny guy. First he betrays liberals then he betrays Trump in some discord tier drama. His public approval is probably scraping the bottom. Yet he's so rich he can get away with stuff like this and his companies are honestly the only ones innovating technology right now.

Waymo is owned by google and is the real functional robotaxi service for some time now. Tesla robotaxi is a charade with indians teleoperating a hanful of demo cars for a PR stunt since Elon promised robotaxis by 2017 and still has nothing to shiw for it.

Waymo is jeet operators too. There is no 100% self driving car even at their limited range low speed areas. And it still has hilarious problems. But bigger question is when the carjackers figure out how to stop them. What will you do?
The funniest thing though, is pod living bug people claiming it will be more private and cheaper. Ahahahaha. They will record everything inside and outside of the car. Any mistake will be charged in full (right now you puke in my car Uber charges a nominal fee). And you have no human intermediary. When prices get too high or service goes out I can transact for cash. Without me, you are at the mercy of the bot. You deserve what you get for believing that tech Jews will be benevolent with even less humans between them and you.

Unlike uber drivers, who I feel bad for because they're real people who own their cars and are trying to feed their family. Who gives a SHIT about big corprorate robocars, in fact you can directly harm this corpos by damaging their shit cars with no collateral damage.

>remote drivers
That's how they all work. They fail safe by stopping and then a remote driver tells it how to get going again.

That's why full speed highway self driving is so difficult, you can't just stop as a fail safe. There was one trucking company who went on the highway without safety drivers, but they only drove for a couple of days before putting them back in for reasons.

what if we just had autonomous vehicles on tracks in designated zones just for them and you could just hop on and hop off as you please (after paying a fee, of course)

if people need to go somewhere the auto self driving tracked tech vehicle doesn't, they can go fuck themselves and do their business somewhere the vehicle DOES stop if they know what the fuck's good for them and their legs if they don't keep my line profitable

my city unironically has disabled people taxis though; they are paid for by the city, operated by the transit authority, and are actual purpose-built minibuses for getting wheelchairs on and shit instead of just being a shitty sedan
