What the fuck is this socket? I know what a normal RS232 socket looks like, and this isn't it. Are there any USB adapters for this shit?

It's just a screw terminal connector so you can make an ad hoc cable out of junk wires.

Make sure that your cable uses the right logic levels. Most of them use TTL levels while RS-232 uses higher voltages (and also negative voltages).

RTFM, it's obviously for asynchronous comms, could be uart/sci breakout from rs232 with automation applications, you really need to know the logic level voltages to narrow it down, which would be in the fucking manual.
