How risky is updooting your UEFI really? I want to updoot the bios of my old PC with a newer version to enable reBAR but I'm scared from the stories I heard about poople bricking their systems

It's not that hard.
Find the product manual on your board's official support page, follow the instructions carefully, and be patient during the update process.

this, also have a look to see if your mobo provides flashback in case something goes wrong.
and pro-tip: save your bios settings beforehand, updates have a habit of wiping your settings back to default

Remember that power could go out at any minute, anon. That will render your bios bricked. Happened to a friend of mine.

Get yourself an SPI flash programmer and you can always unbrick your board. It's pretty rare for things to go wrong, and besides, a lot of modern boards have either BIOS flashback or dual BIOS, so you are probably fine. if you decide to buy an SPI programmer, make sure that you get one that can output the right voltage for your chip, or get a level converter. Otherwise, you could fry every chip connected to the same voltage rail.
I have picrel, which has a built-in adjustable level shifter.

You will brick your hardware just like you will brick your flash drive while pulling it out from usb port when it's writing.
So you will need to do work to do it.

i have updooted BIOS gorillions of times and nothing bad has ever happened

then again i'm extra careful not to trip on the power cable or keep drinks near the computer case when the bios updoot is in progress

don't do it unless you absolutely need to, especially if you haven't done so ever or if the machine has never had its UEFI updated. too risky unless you know what you're doing and can recover.

> but.. power!
great. if the machine has a fault or something and it crashes or does something stupid, you've now got a brick or it fails to install. seen that happen before. but at least you had power! phew. i miss the old days where i could just swap out a ROM chip. now i have to deal with flash glownigger faggotry.

if the motherboard supports usb flashback, then its basically 0 risk, as you can always recover it, even if you dont have a supported cpu.

what sort of Pentium 4 povertyboard do you own that doesnโ€™t have dual UEFI chips + UEFI flashback, Ramesh?
