Are there any super compact desktop style computers, cheaper than the GPD pocket? $300 is pretty steep. I don't need it to game.
I tried installing Linux on my Android phone, but userLAnd doesn't run a X server, so it's basically useless and can't run anything.
id rather squeeze a rooted phone
>>105686280 (OP)If you are okay with ARM then the fxtec pro 1x with x11 on pmos or droidian with your favorite desktop x11 userland. If you want a traditional phone UI sailfish with containers for mainline
instead of doing gay shit just get a Asus Zenbook 13" flipbook and be happy

Maybe Uconsole, or one of those mini blackberry pi handhelds.

>>105686280 (OP)You can find the Japanese Nanote Next for around $200, but it's a useless piece of shit.
Also, Linux will never work well on mobile/touch devices.

for anyone who wants to go slightly bigger, i.e. about 10", there's chuwi minibook x, about 300$ as well. It's not pocketable, but it's just at the cutoff of the keyboard being actually usable. Runs linux well, though on less popular distros you need to do some fiddling.
I'm wiling to spend a good amount on a UMPC but not if I get Trump'd on top of it.
You can get decade old stock windows tablets for 80-100USD.
What you are looking for doesn't exist. The cost of manufacturing something with any remotely decent silicon, for a niche device that doesn't have the benefit of economies of scale, is significantly higher than it used to be.
There's a reason all of the AliExpress "UMPC" devices being posted are over $1000. "$300 is pretty steep" is a ridiculous statement for a niche device like this given the modern landscape of manufacturing costs.
$300 is CHEAP. It is literally DIRT CHEAP. You will not find any modern, currently manufactured device for cheaper because it does not exist, and it cannot exist.
