Exactly how do they plan to enforce this? Factories will not keep producing old parts because of reduced demand. ((((They)))) will just make the same amount of parts and limit the supply rate claiming
>out of stock for now
while the parts are actually somewhere in a storehouse until the 7y are up.

Also, repairing a phone costs like a new phone, might as well buy a new one.

EU is idealistic as usual.

They want to enforce longevity of parts. 7 years is min lifespan of a phone. If factories won't make new parts and replacing them is impossible because they didn't outsource it to 3rd party. They will be fined.

>If factories won't make new parts
Nobody said that.

Spare parts available isn't the same as spare parts being produced.
When you buy a battery of a phone that is four years old, you get a shelfed battery that is already two years old.
Never noticed how your "new" battery is dead within month, while your original held for two years?

If you ever owned a German car, you will know that the costs of their spare parts explode with age.
That's because they are out of production, and shelfed units get sold. They technically never run out of them, they just get more and more expensive.
I recently had a broken hydraulic pump in my German car that once was 300 €, but is now 3500 €.
Germans are the world champions when its about ripping you off with spare parts for old products.

The only reason Apple can provide good support is because their profit margins are so big that they can just give people replacement products on a whim to keep them happy. They maintain these profit margins by making slop products, just like everyone else.
Apple is going to respond to this legislation as spitefully as possible, not just to salvage their profits, but to demonstrate to the EU that they are an American company and therefore above consequences.

If you commies want better products, have Tim Apple and his next five replacement CEOs killed.

It may lead to terrorism and people falling prey to dangerous ideas that are antidemocratic, making us more susceptible to Russian disinformation and propaganda like a self feeding loop.
Imagine if kids start installing random insecure OSs on their devices, that will make them target for the Russian hackers.
It's better to limit some of the user freedom now instead of letting them fall prey to ideas that will lead to antidemocratic sentiments that will limit all of our freedom on future.

There are multiple actually.
More regulations usually mean that the product will costs more because companies have to comply with a ever increasing number of rules, this happens directly like regulations applied on a specific industry sector, or indirectly like the cost of transportation.
Regulations are also a barrier of entry on new companies. Some regulations are actually pushed by big corporations who can absorb the cost of them, so that the competition will not be able to sustain themselves in the long run. Others are pushed so that to comply the small companies need services or products made by those big corporations.
t. Eurochad who knows a bit of how the economy works.

The mass surveillance law is called chat control and has not passed. It's pushed by that swedish karen bitch.
Companies under the DSA are legally obligated to remove CSAM, but are not responsible for detecting it. Many do so voluntarily because they are allowed to do it via a special derogation under the e-privacy directive law.

You do not understand how companies work. New companies will ALWAYS have more expensive products, so they will focus on quality more rather than qunatity. See for example System76. They know they cannot compete with giant Chinese multinationals so they go all-in on quality and longevity. This will affect precisely zero small companies since they have been doing this already. And in the long run buying longer lasting hardware pays off ... if you want something cheaper you might as well buy second hand.
