Is the future of automobile going to be automation?

Would it be legal for you to drive anymore in 2040, since automatic driving would be 100% safe rather than human driving?

The average age of a car in the United States is currently 12.7 years, and is on the rise. By 2026, it's esimated to be 13 years.

Even if we assumed that the average age would not rise at all (which it's projected to do), the average car in 2040 would be a 2027 model. But given how the average age of a car is rising, most likely the average car on the road in 2040 has already been produced in a factory.
