Why don't all EVs have solar panels on the roof?

Same reason ICEs don't drag a paper towel along the road to soak up oil drips from other cars and wring it into the engine

The roof is too small for any kind of useful charge.

You'd get like 200W of charge. That's practically useless.

5 hours @ 200 watts = 1.0 kWh a day
That's around 3 miles a day, in perfect conditions.

In a survival situation, this could potentially save you.

Even in less than perfect conditions that still adds up to hundreds of free miles per year. And depending on where you live it could be much more.

I donโ€™t think I would care about 3 miles per day extra, especially on a car that already gets the equivalent of $0.20/gallon gas.
plus it would mean not parking in my garage.

Because solar panels are a scam. With a solar panel the size of the roof of the car, you could barely charge your phone, so don't even think about the car's batteries.

It would still increase the cost of the car, and more importantly would affect chassis design. Manufacturers don't want to kill marketability.

It'll topple over. Won't generate enough. Inconvenience outweights benifit. Ideally, you could phev 700 cc engine
