It was awesome. super fast, simple, no bloatware.

Then everybody moved to shitty online platforms for some reason. urgh...

The problem of mIRC is when you connected to IRC server with visible addresses (not spoofed/encrypted IP address shown on WhoIS). I really miss going on the IRC servers. It's almost 20 years from the last time I hanged out on one of them.

mirc isn't a server, retard. it's an application. is there a white man older than 12yo in the house i can speak to?

I miss mIRC and I miss the scripting language that came with it.

mIRC scripting was my first taste of computer programming, ever. I didn't even know it was computer programming until my father looked at some 800 line .mrc file I was making to create a pokedex bot and said "Hey, that's some nice scripting you're doing".

If anyone remembers Pojo and Mediadriven, those were some great servers only because they banned eggdrop bots and thus, everyone had to make some stripe of scripting bot if they wanted to make any kind of chatroom game.

not really mIRC's goal, that's something you would get a BNC for. Which you could get on any major server to save backlog.

Or if you're real 1337 you have an old computer that just never turned off, only ran mIRC

So are your shitty online platforms. IRC is still good today. Almost every major warez group still exists as an IRC channel but gets raided when they port their shit to glowcord.

>>105696442
Maybe if you're using irssi you could say otherwise but other than that, it was slim for its time.

IRC is literally the perfect chat medium. Nothing stays forever. You exist in the moment with everybody, if you want to save a log you use a service individualized to your needs to do it on your behalf, and server owners were nebulous and usually would tell feds to fuck off.

An evolved version of this would likely be text chat requiring certificates to join channels for end-to-end encryption. Which some apps and programs already do but a bunch of them are outright backdoored and closed source. IRC never had this problem as it was just a standard.

the day when the half life 2 source code leaked, was one of the most golden days to be in IRC. Plenty of warez groups were active, ftp dumps full of script kiddies and hardcore autists sharing their secrets while proving your skills, a shit load of RTFM replies and thousand of hours of shit to read.

>you fucking n00b!
