Arch works well on OrangePi 5 /RK3588, still on vendor kernel though, as hardware video codecs aren't mainlined yet.

Almost everything else is by now, though.

So, Linux should run absolutely perfectly fine on the custom Linux from the longest running Arm SBC project, the RPi, including full suppoirt for 3D acceleration and Video de- and encoding right?
R...Right?

Should, but they removed the hardware video codecs except for HEVC decoding from RPi5 (along with moving GPIO to external bridge connected via PCIe with associated rather extreme latencies) so I'm not going to support that shitshow anymore.

The companies are turbofaggots who do like to do everything they can to limit what the user can do so I wouldn't have too much hope.

I use an M2 Mac Mini as my work machine right now using Linux. There are a few things not done yet that I want, but it's stable and works fine.

I think the issues are these stupid device tree files. Basically in x86 Linux can poll some ACPI tables and it'll tell the kernel which modules to load etc. and can interact with the basic hardware with universal drivers.

On ARM there is no BIOS /EFI so esentially you end up with a separate installer image for every single ARM system you want to support

Care to get more into detail here? Is the GPU fully supported by now?

I've just read about Canonical working on Ubunut support for snapdragon PCs, seems like its not that easy when you need a company like them to do the thing, these fuckers at qualcomm seemingly cant be bothered at least

I don't game on it, but it's fine for web browsing including YT. I do reasonably intense processing with my mpv config and it doesn't cause issues. The HDMI is a bit wonky if you switch displays, but I found a workaround with DPMS. I wish they'd finish thunderbolt support.
