Microsoft blinked. Now Windows 10 updates are now free until October 2026 for Windows Backup users. I expect they will eventually retreat all the way the LTSC deadline by big companies who don't want to throw out their expensive hardware.

I just ended up downloading IoT Enterprise 2021 when the news hit, and I think I should've done it sooner. So much better.
I'm glad it lacks all the stupid shit I didn't use or want on Windows 10 which was insisted upon me, and the next several years of updates is nice too.

mine still forced Edge to reinstall so many times that I gave up trying to stop it
there would always be instructions online for "how to remove it and make sure it stays gone!" like blocking folder permissions and shit. But then they would release a new version of Edge that uses different tricks to force install itself again
whatever, I switched to hackintosh and am perfectly happy with that

>it's free*
>*have to farm rewards points on the Microsoft Backup app
Instead of doing all that shit, I could just install Linux.

I would like to remove Edge, but since Microsoft can't help their jeet malware tendencies, they had to integrate the fucking browser into an essential part of the OS itself so Windows won't function properly without it.
I'm just satisfied with omitted Microsoft Store and some of the default apps being removed entirely, and that Xbox Game Bar is removable. (and no random Copilot, Candy Crush, or Solitaire Collection installed as apart of your "mandatory security update".)
Windows 11 is pure AIDS though, I don't understand why they made things that were once much more accessible become excruciatingly more difficult to find or hidden behind another unnecessary dropdown menu. I can tolerate the round corners and aesthetics, but not "difficult for the sake of simplicity" bullshit.

Microsoft goofed with the new requirements, no big company will want to throw away their computers bought in 2012.. if those had Sandy Bridges the CPU itself is perfectly fine for everyday computing even today, if all you need is 2,5GHz to 3GHz dualcore, in a somewhat limited corporate use

How's a year 2012 CPU different from 2018 for example, if both are setup for dualcore applications?

2018:
-has lower TDP, like 15W or something
-has new multimedia instructions (Intel MPX and SGX)
-DDR4 memory support

2012:
-has TDP value of probably 50W
-DDR3 memory support

both have exactly the same CPU speed for a single thread when using x86-64 code which does not use new multimedia instructions

>for Windows Backup users.
Keyword here.

You have to pay $30/month (year?) over their non-backup $50+10+10 3 year security extension. It's not necessarily "free," but a cheaper option if yearly.

All I use it for is games and music. I have a separate work-issued laptop for work. By the time I'm actually forced to make a decision mint will probably work in online games

>big company
>still using 2012 machines
They don't wait until employees complain their machines are outdated or broken, they have maintenance contracts to have them replaced regularly. The usual "refresh cycle" is 3 to 5 years.
