Why didn’t microsoft, apple, meta, cloudlfare, a bunch of hosting companies become sponsors too? They also rely on linux for their business.

amazingly to see people shitting on Red Hat when it comes to linux when the whole kernel itself is heavily influenced by even worse corpos.

GPLfags said this wouldn't happen if we used their license. Guess we'll have to wait for Hurd.

No worries. All those companies pay membership to the Linux Foundation.

Indeed, the kernel literally has closed source firmware blobs.

"the" kernel doesnt, yours probably does, or "the" kernel wont boot on your machine
and there is only two people to blame, the manufacturer of your hardware and you for supporting them

it's bleakly hilarious that people think they're sticking it to the man by using this slop instead of the competing corporate slop

And then he gives them to me for free under a free license. I don't understand what the downside of this for me is.

Turns out people care about the specifics instead of just saying "corpo bad" and ending all thought.
google's ill behavior tends to revolve around trying to wall off their own code from the gpl, memeing people into using weaker licenses, etc.
redhat's involves throwing their weight around as much as possible to force their own ideas on the whole community

That's the issue, having open source software is not much if hardware isn't as open. Hardware manufacturers who open all of their schematics and licenses will go broke in an instant.

Most of the meaninful development in the Linux sphere was and is done by corporations like Red Hat, or sponsored by corporations like Google. Google also contributes to Debian and whatever, Intel makes sure their drivers are quickly added to the kernel, etc. Even the major strides Linux is taking into the gaming world are the result of Valve swinging their dick.

If there was no corporate presence in Linux, it would be an absurd joke. Take it for granted that you can use this shit for free. Linux is fucking incredible for something that is fully free.
