I have a washing machine that works like this. You have to press the stupid fucking glass for 3 seconds then wait another 15 seconds before the digital screen and dial work then you have to roll the dial until the screen says "wash" then hold another part of the glass for 3 seconds and it starts doing the laundry.

what factors motivate a company to do this? a company cannot actually think this is a good idea. any level of testing would determine this is a horrible idea. this has to be a part of some bigger plan.

I have a timer like this and I don't really like it. It's fine if you're doing 1/2/3 minutes but sucks if you just need to nuke something for 15 seconds, since the amount of turning to get it to turn on gets it above it.

use the power setting to finetune, the heat will be better distributed too
15s is half power at 30s, or quarter at 1m
the way it regulates power is via duty cycle, unless is an inverter unit, so you get full power for a percentage of time

Microwaves are technology. /g/ should be aware of solid state microwaves. So basically instead of using a weird vacuum tube, you use transistors that have been doped with massive amounts of steroids. More microwave sources can be used and power can be adjusted more finely, so cooking's more uniform. They can supposedly cook eggs without exploding. Buy an ad you say? Ain't got nothing to sell, no solid state microwaves are on the market and China's gallium restrictions may hold them back.

but inverter microwaves already fixes most of the problems...
i mean i support solid state against tubes, but its not always a good idea.
and in very high power rf applications tubes still shine

that is just how heat transfer work anon... is not the problem of a microwave, its pure physics.
unless you want to insert shit in your solid food to transfer heat, like the bbq experiment here https://youtu.be/CxU-YChTkW4 , you can only slowly diffuse heat from the surface to the inside

we are lucky that those mechanisms are basically analog thermostats and absurdly cheap
doubt they would be changed soon
usually when shit is changed to touchsceeen is bc the touchscreen is cheaper than the buttons and knobs, and you are already using microcontrollers and shit, but the knobs in the microwave avoid the digital parts altogether

They do it because 1) one touchscreen is cheaper than two dozen buttons and knobs 2) they can charge more for less because touchscreens 'feels premium'.
Same shit with cars. You'll be waiting for a while, I guess.

>>105698267
No, it's a problem with the microwave. Microwave ovens are RF cavities. You get a standing wave set up inside, at some places you get high electric fields and others it's low. Using more sources means you can get a different radiation pattern and sort of shift it around a bit as is done with phased arrays
