cmd is a shell. Windows Terminal is a terminal.
You can use cmd in Windows Terminal.

I wouldn;t, and I haven;t. in fact I made to sure to use cmd.exe entirely because it has reliable behavior with lots of deocumentation.

windows terminal sucks. I've shopped around a lot to find a terminal that handles all of windows shells' autism and so far cmder is your best bet. it works great with cmd specifically with a lot of QoL enhancements. although I'm personally more of a pwsh user, it works great with pwsh too.
