Do Americans really? Here in France, we just went to the computer room and used normal desktop PCs running Windows. And no, I'm not old, I'm a literal post-2000 zoomer.

So, imagine that the only application you could open on your laptop was Google chrome. That's what chrome OS is.

No, we used polycarbonate MacBooks (chromebooks didn't exist at the time).
I pity anyone who had the misfortune of using a chromebook.

Load Kali Linux on it. Or Debian, you can do it. Just run a container install in terminal
Some nerdy chick with glasses and long hair has a tutorial on it on YouTube, just search Kali Linux Chromebook Install or something of that sort
You'd be a real badass for turning a shitbox into something more useful than a 2008 Nissan Altima leaking oil all over the place like a faulty Tampax. Yeah it'll get the job done but no mechanic that's trustworthy would have a semblance of respect for you driving that. I'd be like "okay, I'll fix it for 5 grand." Oh that's too steep, you decided to cut corners with an essential purchase and ran that spicbox into the ground like the sand nigger you are

I use a lenovo 11e with an IPS display swap, coreboot and running Linux. It's a comfy little shitbox machine that can run off a phone charger :)

The truth is that the OS is ... fine, but the hardware is either garbage ewaste or too expensive to be a reasonable choice.

I used a Chromebook for work for 5 years at Google. I liked that it was lightweight (for meetings) and could SSH or RDP to my desktop. It was a good away-from-my-desk machine. It sucked after WFH when I tried to use it with peripherals at my desk; it's not made with enough ports or power.

Damn, they really didn't improve shit it seems. We had heavily regulated internet at my lycee in 2006. Library had some PCs but you had to ask permissions to get online for school projects. It was truly suffering.

God why do people never learn extremely basic patterns
All tech in 2000+10+n follows a simple rule called rent seeking.

1) give away your useful service for free to everyone
2) everyone uses it, immediately get enraged when told to do without because the human brain is the most inefficient thing this side of Laniakea and tries to save energy as its main priority 24/7
3) start selling user data to advertisers and retailers for cheapo
4) when it's saturated and everyone has your data investors want moar returns. Start selling "sponsorships" where you pit advertisers and retailers in a bidding match to be on top of your platform to milk the cattle users for pennies
5) keep going until another platform comes along that invalidates the need for your service because users are always dumb cattle ready to give you all their cash just to be lazier

Got it? If you can sell convenience you will get ALL the cash at the cost of being a total fucking irredeemable piece of shit making the world garbage for yourself and others. Enjoy hookers and blow i guess, while FOSS retards try to make actual good software while dreaming of making actual good hardware.

So "hurr durr chromebooks".
Yes. Selling all your data, habits, dick pics to trap you on their closed platform. Then they begin fleecing you harder and force ads and their products on you harder.
Win11 home doesn't let you install programs. I repeat. WIN11 DOESN'T LET YOU INSTALL PROGRAMS ON YOUR MACHINE

I hope you got it now.
I'm done with this fucking planet, sucks to be you since this is your shitty home and your brain too inefficient to find a way to leave. See ya in meatspace i guess
