Why can't we use cows as fuel?

that cow is sick and producing more gas than normal.

but gases can be and are captured from rotting manure, the manure itself is used for fertilizer (which is indirectly made into fuel if the farm is growing stuff to be turned into ethanol), and some places still use the dried husks of the fiber in the poop as fuel pellets. historically, a "cow patty" was literally an actual thing you would carry around that was a dried piece of cow (or horse) shit used for firestarting since there's a lot of thermal mass in there but a low ignition temperature and the embers tend to stay stuck in there so it's safer and longer-lasting than keeping wood embers going.

cows can be afflicted by an issue that makes them produce excess gas from digestion. this causes discomfort (bad for dairy cows) and can lead to more threatening illnesses if there is too much pressure

making a small incision into the cow and inserting a probe where the gas escapes can help, and Qualified Technicians (hicks who want a laff) can ignite the gases.
