at work it's either brew or what comes with the corporate managed os image. there is no need to install any appstore shovel-ware or manually download dmg files.

Brew (or maybe pkgsrc, nix etc) is what you use to do actual work on a macbook.
As a general rule, the more productive you are in macOS, the further you are from its intended audience. Which is fine, but it's call it what it is.

this is opensuse tumbleweed but you have the option to never touch the cli and just use YAST
