Yes. And it is revolving around the future split of Windows.
Traditional tower will be definitely dead for the mainstream.
For everyday computing, consumers will be orientated to Windows 12 copilot with low power chips+AI. So only laptops, AiOs, and miniPCs will be available. For normies, a smartphone must be the main unit of computing.
For workstations, it is required to go through authorized dealers to acquire one that comes with Windows.
Windows 12 + copilot won't be available for small/hobbyist system builders for purchase anymore. Ofc it can be pirated, and for exchange of more shared data with MSFT.
For gamers, towers PC will remain, will come with a special version of Windows catered to gamers, and sold under XBOX label. Can be converted to workstations but with a lot of additional tweaking.

It is already happening
>normalfags who are the cashcows are already using their smartphones or laptops for their computing needs
>the only consumers left in the market are gamers
>rest of PC users are power users/professionals

>PC is slowly shifting towards catering to those professionals like in the 80s
>shit will get expensive as fuck because you're now trying to buy a computer in a market aimed at high income professionals and not normal consumers anymore

these things with external GPUs might just change everything. Honestly, you can get a fucking $300 mini pc and it kicks ass because it plays every game that came out pre2020. Add on a $500 GPU and you're playing every game out there.

Everyone knows that you should NEVER FUCKING BUY A GPU THAT COSTS MORE THAN A FUCKING CONSOLE. You just don't do it. It's stupid. A PC with a GPU that costs the same as a console is going to outperform that console any day of the week. This is the rule for 30 years.

Also, consoles suck. You never get real graphics or legacy games. Just expensive titles that run in 30 fps minus drops. Real GPU makes sense for 144 Hz gaming.

What the fuck is a nuc? Two, if I were to run a gaming studio I would absolutely buy a bunch of beelinks at $500 each and run the shit out of them. They ABSOLUTELY FUCKING CAN make a AAA game. There's no reason why they couldn't. Not a single fucking reason.

At the studio I worked at the PCs were meh. At the school I went at they were shitty iMacs. Everyone got along just fine and those things cost x5 as much as a beelink.

External graphics cards are a mostly retarded idea. Enclosures are expensive and a pain in the ass. Not only is performance limited, but that shit needs its own power supply anyway. Rather than buying some fucking mini-PC + enclosure (+ PSU if not included or integrated) + graphics card you're literally going to be better off just building a mini-ITX or micro-ATX (more affordable) PC that's also going to be faster not only due to using desktop parts but most importantly because the GPU is actually going to get a full 16 PCIe lanes rather than being gimped over some external cable for no reason.

At least the laptopfags have some reason to drool at overpriced eGPU trashola, they supposedly take their portable computers with them to use when away from home and can use the expensive GPU enclosure both for a perf boost and as a dock at home. That's still going to be expensive and you're still getting assraped by the performance bottleneck, but at least there's some practical sense to it. Doing the same with a mini-PC is just nonsensical since the thing doesn't work without peripherals anyway. Just get a normal PC if you need dedicated GPU levels of performance.

They aren't enclosures, they are just docks. They are like $100.

Again, you can get a 5825u, 16gig, 1TB, 560GTX for $850. You can play literally anything on max settings 1080p 140fps with dlss, including raytracing.

People said desktop pcs were dead back in 2012 and that didnโ€™t pan out. Desktop computing and enthusiast computing are two different things, just because prebuilt computers are dropping off doesnโ€™t mean people are going to stop making gaming pcs, thats a segment of the market that has always existed and will continue to exist. Barring some major breakthrough in cloud computing I doubt this will change.

>do you think PC desktops are finished by 2030?
I 'member when people were asking this same question 10 years ago, except if they'll be finished by 2020 because normgroids were using laptops and tablets for everything at the time. The reality is that the desktop has already been finished for some time, with most desktop users these days being power users or gamers. You can see the signs of a desktop becoming a non-mainstream thing in how building SFF computers or having optical drives in your builds is considered nonstandard now.

It is more of a mixed bag.
RPi:
Fairly good documentation
Long term support
Long term availability - this makes it popular in the professional market

Competitors:
Better hardware (faster, better power control)
Quick to the market
Poor support and no guarantee when EOL comes.

Desktops will still be there in one way or another, because someone needs to maintain all the sแปyware we use, but the vast majority of people will probably be pushed into m0bile devices because of availability, muh security, kikes seething about piracy and niggercialisation of technology.
