I've seen this suggested here a few days ago
now that I'm melting from the heat as a euro rentoid I am seriously considering it
the issue I have is that my window doesn't open enough to make the outside unit pass through, and I don't think they'll let me put anything on the service balcony (don't have access to it)
however
>main room and bathroom have air vents
>bathroom usually colder than main room
>put portasplit between main and bathroom
would this work?

It would to a point, but unless you seal off that bathroom it will severely limit the cooling potential and efficiency, will heat that room up to easily over 40C

Just buy a dual hose one in that case, those are also efficient just loud as fuck

yeah the main issues are indeed
>need to seal the door in a way that I can still access the bathroom when I need to
>don't know if the building's vent system can cool the bathroom enough to offset the AC
I guess I'll look for a dual hose yeah
god I hate that the only window I have is a shitty vertical one that barely opens

hum, anon your country is not exactly well know for having landlords reasonable, but still, you should ask them if you can put the external unit a couple of month per year
you can also freeze bottles in the kitchen and then put it in front of a vent in your room. the kitchen technically would get hotter, but still it may be an overall improvement

The 2nd hone is to PREVENT pulling in hot outside air through air vents and any other openings/cracks.
No home is air tight so you're never going to pull a vacuum.
Amount of air blown out = amount of air sucked in.

The main problem with single hose portable units is they constantly mix in hot outside air into the room, which then has to be cooled again.
With two hoses or, even better, a split unit you can have a more or less sealed room with cool indoors air that never mixes with hot outside air.
Far more efficient but also means CO2 will build up so a little venting is still a good idea.

>>put portasplit between main and bathroom
You don't get how this works.
If you put the side meant for outside in the bathroom and the part meant for inside in the main room all you'd do is extracting heat energy from your main room and literally pump it all into your bathroom which originally was cooler.
So in the end you'd end up with a bathroom at 50ยฐC and a kinda cooler main room at best.
At worst the heat pumped in the bathroom would just sneak back into the rest of the apartment, especially if you, you know, wanna go for a shit or piss and open the door and there wouldn't be a big change apart from your electric bill getting nooked

Try to top this:

>live in souterrain apartment (half-basement basically, bottom of the windows is on lawn level
>windows are south-west oriented
>noon sun is fucking cooking them
>therefore have to have shutters down almost completely all summer, turning the apartment into a dark basement. if shutters not down, the room would heat up 10 degrees in less than one hour
>insulation is 80s level so even with darkening everything out, every day with temps >30ยฐC means around 1 degree gained every day until the apartment eventually matches outdoor temperatures
>have to keep windows closed all day or otherwise the hot ass air would heat up the room in minutes

And now the kicker

>can't keep windows open at night for the apartment to cool off a little because [REDACTED] could easily just step in
>can't keep windows open at night for the apartment to cool off a little because mice could easily chew through the fly net in the windows and get in (which had happened already and it was a bitch to locate and get the fucker out)

>basically only have a brief moment before midnight to open all windows while still awake
Bonus:
>can't air apartment out in the morning because humidity is fuck high so you'd not only BARELY get any heat out, you'd also gain tons of humid air inside

NEVER get a fucking basement apartment. Even if it seems "cooler" in summer at first.

Europe has something we call a 'native population'. The native population does not need AC, it is degenerate and reckless to use such thing and only LGBT and certain ethnic groups use such AC because they couldn't care less about others or in some cases even want to cause harm. AC also causes obesity.
The native european thinks ahead and should the temperatures ever reach high temperatures they do as follows: Open all windows and doors of the house at night, let it vent, get up as the sun rises, close all vents and blinds to trap the cool or shut out the warm air. Easy as.

Something about storing barrels somewhat deep under the garden where its cooler and then circulating fluid.
A ghetto ass version of this would be like a somewhat large radiator with tubing going to a relatively lazy pump, perhaps a large aquarium one, just to move the liquid about and then sending that shit to the aforementioned barrels outside via tubing where they will radiate to the outside, a heat exchange system.
If not buried then at least out of the sun, that should do something as long as the outside is cooler than the in.
