How old tech could you use in your daily life while still being able to live somewhat normally?
>horse/walking for transportation
>sending letters to the bank regarding money and bills
>telegraphs no longer work but cord phone is fine
>90's era computers with a very minimalistic linux distro
>letters rather than email and SMS
Email and SMS are the old technology at this point. Unfortunately, they are gradually being replaced by centralized platforms such as Whatsapp and Signal.
>>105745273 (OP)Actually writing physical letters and mailing them off to correspond with distant friends/family/acquaintances is unironically good for your brain.
>>105745273 (OP)This is a very stupid post. By your own adminition you use a computer and a phone but you're still going to write letters to the bank? You're going to use a computer but you refuse to use a bicycle for transportation, and instead opt for a horse???
>>105745341i did that once and my relatives thought i was doing it as part of some university project then asked why i'm not on facebook
>>105745341i've been re-training myself when it comes to writing nice looking letters. My handwriting was completely fucked after 20 years of using keyboards only.
It's quite relaxing... to sit, and think... and write.
>>105745273 (OP)>writing letters to your bank (lol) when you have a phone on the table????? your post honestly makes no sense OP but still interesting topic
>>105745411nah nothing serious. just a fun thought experiment.

>>105745287Email and SMS were basically centralized already anyway for the average person. How many people do you know that host their own email?
>>105745273 (OP)>>90's era computers with a very minimalistic linux distro
Yeah I do this for my workshop pc, it's more like early 00's laptop without a screen but I have a almost-all-in-one solution that I can type one and dirty the thing just to play some music and see a video tut
>>105745273 (OP)I still use the same text editor I downloaded in 1998 for writing.

>>105745273 (OP)I use Microsoft Streets and Trips 2006 sometimes to map out routes before I go somewhere.

LOOK WHAT THEY TOOK FROM US
>>105748756Are you using the old maps or is there a way to update them?
Also I miss how compact old UIs were. It's so much more efficient than modern websit that wastes so much space.
If you're going to use a telephone, personal computer, internet, are you really living in the past?
Anyway, I do have a lot of things from the 90s including all of my home appliances, my car, my speakers, most of my clothes. There is a lot of old software I like but I still use it with a newish computer.
One area I really don't want to go back to the past is PMPs. I won't use one that lacks parametric eq.
>>105745273 (OP)I have an ancient P4 that outputs more heat than my 4090, I could use that to heat the house instead of a furnace.
>>105746758It's a pain in the ass. A lot of services won't let you use emails from "untrusted" sources
>>105748921yeah, it's really well-made
>>105748987old maps, I haven't run into major changes though. There are later versions that are more up-to-date which I may try. There's always other online maps or paper maps from AAA of course.
