Xfinity is rolling out motion detection via their routers. Isnโ€™t it cool? Theyโ€™re using WiFi to map out your home and can detect if someone has been there

They will. How else do you think they'll be able to upload all the tracking data in realtime?

This would be brilliant for home security in my shithole
But then you remember all these companies are evil as fuck and are looking to harvest your data out of bad faith so they can leak/sell them

I am consistently underwhelmed with the relevancy of ads and marketing material sent to me, considering all of the tech and money that supposedly goes into it.

>at no extra cost to you

Nothing is more expensive than free.
How is this data being handled? Is the motion detected inside your own home "their data" that they are free to sell to anyone they want?

well, ads are to teach you what they want you to buy, not what you want to buy.

They will use QoS to make sure their telemetry gets top speed while your torrents and Steam downloads get deprioritized

You were lied to, the data harvesting isnt for advertisements. Precogs don't exist, so collecting all your data is the closest they can get to making Minority Report a reality.

Just wait until someone figures out that makes them input devices and that specific repetitive movements could cause overflow and code execution.

THIS

The us government bragged about having this tech nearly 2 decades ago, with it's only limit being how much data you gave it. Then they went dark, and started hoovering up as much data about everyone and everything that they can, saved for posterity. Every person in the world will likely have a file on them, that contains not only their past, but also their future, as well as how to manipulate their future.

This is what the AI hype and massive shilling camping to normalize AI is truly about. It's about getting you to consent to this future without even noticing you've consented to it.

as hazardous as a lamp's light hitting you and then reflecting into a camera that records you. Actually it's less hazardous now that I think about it. The frequency and power levels are much lower.

part of the reason is that ad money is nothing more than megacoprs allocating some percentage of their budget for "marketing" and then the marketers buy for tons of online ads without actually checking if they work or not. The online equivalent of spamming brochures at peoples' houses
