>Things are getting shit and making me realise I probably need to move on

Where do I start and is a tech and IT job still worth it. Do I need to do formal University route or are there other methods these days to get certified for things

do you already do IT related things? if no then start and if yes then put it on a CV and apply for entry level jobs, don't get a degree unless you want it you are better just getting on job experience

There is no more money to be made anywhere, capitalism is dead, planet is over-crowded, unless you are ready to do crime you will be poor your entire life, that's the real redpill.

learn a trade instead. IT is unsavably shedding workers right now.

I would recommend studying in uni only if you learn something serious like science or philosophy. Computers are easier, you don't need uni for it. But maybe some jobs prefer people with diploma

Check what salary you will get for what job. Keep in mind that computers are boring and your life will be much harder if you do what you don't like

The market sucks right now. I'm in IT and doing cloud certifications to try and make a lateral move to a different job, but I'm really worried. I did the certification route... A+, Network+, Security+... my first gig was doing volunteer work for a nonprofit that didn't have any tech people. It's a good avenue if you are just looking for things to put on your resume. If they use Office 365 or Google Workspace, see if they'll pay for you to get certified in their software stack.
The problem isn't really AI, it is that no one know what the landscape is going to look like it 12 months and corporate entities rely on stability. Most of the tech layoffs are from non-technical roles like recruiting, (Why do you need recruiters if you aren't going to hire anyone) HR and marketing...
Honestly, if you are just looking for unsolicited career advice, I would become an electrician instead, or something like welding.
If you want to do IT, I would highly recommend looking up events on MeetUp or other boards and just attending and get to know people. You are a lot more likely to get hired because you have a reference and are someone they would actually enjoy working with.

The way forward is to identify jobs you could theoretically do, then lie/cheat/steal your way into one. It's no longer a game of morality, it's go time. Lie your ass off.

What are some other trades out there where you don't need to constantly be going to different work sites?

Was even thinking of aviation maintenance but not sure if thats one where I need to drive to different sites all the time. Plus I don't have much interest with aviation in itself but do like tools and messing with things. And tinkering with my car (at least the things that won't compromise reliability if I were to do it myself, or easy to reach since I don't feel comfortable getting under my car on jackstands

complacency is a bitch huh
honestly it's too late for every industry
economy's in the shitter
tech is not friendly to newcomers
best try to find an economic niche in your neighborhood and fill it
