What organizations are currently developing real cyberware? Are there any ways I can support the development of tech like this?

My skin is way more pale than yours. It's just the lighting and the fact that we posted different parts of the body.
Now stop derailing my thread and tell me how to get closer to irl cyberware

The first step will be functioning neural interfaces. Neuralink is the most well known one, but Gabe Newell founded a neuroscience startup a while back too. Buying shit during the Steam sale directly funds cyberware.

however that thing fits in the arm, i looks like it occupies the bones should be
>user deploys his/her arm scythe thing
>strikes at someone with it
>target dodges
>arm scythe thing hits hard surface or object instead
>outer shell of forearm bends or tweaks when levered against by the thicker, more solid blade
>can't retract arm scythe anymore
>walking around with it open all day until you can get it services.

Sounds good. I'm paranoid about implants that would connect to the internet though.
I don't know how Gabe's Neuralink works but I hope they would make one that could work without the internet of all things.

I imagine the scenario you described would only happen with cheap metals. I wonder if titanium would be strong enough to not get easily fucked like that. Maybe a titanium outer shell with stainless steel blades could work?

That was always one of the weirdest things about the Cyberpunk game. Apparently the old rules didn't really allow for wireless hacking except at very close range. Why would anyone ever have their wireless connections enabled if someone can just hack them into a coma? Then again, in real life it's possible to hack pacemakers and cause heart attacks by using the right frequency, although highly unlikely and not Internet related strictly speaking. Either way, fuck connecting your brain to the Internet, it already does enough brain damage as it is.

wireless computing was still an extremely expensive novelty back when the original 2020 game was written

yes loyal customer your arm needs to be connected to wifi so that we can automatically perform firmware updates, of course this is 100% secure and will never be exploited by anyone, ever :)

I know it's a cool idea, but there are very few applications where body-integrated tools are better than separate tools.
A simple way to think of it is like this: why would you want a tool you can never put down?

Well said. I wonder how hard it would be to hack these implants if they don't connect to the internet.
If there's any digital parts in these theoretical implants I will always be paranoid of getting my fucking body hacked.

I'd want the fictional blades in the OP since it would be very easy concealed and if you got into a fight then it's not like the other person can take your fucking blade implants from you.
That's a big part of the whole cyber implants thing. You are the weapon, no matter how cringe that sounds.
Add that with the other superhuman implants and you're like an invincible ninja. It's the best power fantasy to me.

I can relate to that power fantasy a lot. A more mundane example would be cyberlegs, with disabled athletes with prosthetic legs already outcompeting regular ones if I remember correctly.

But a lot of stuff would be very annoying implanted. Quite a few years ago there was talk about a phone directly embeded into your skin. I think I remember Zizek hating it and saying that if he doesn't want to answer a call he can't just later tell the other person that he forgot his skin at home.

Yeah the only acceptable implants would be ones that can't become outdated or degrade too heavily.
That phone implant sounds awful. So eventually after like 5 years you have to get it taken out to replace it with one that isn't shit? What a bad idea lmao

I think it was more to do with the functionality of whatever bluetooth-like wireless your cyberware runs on connecting to other stuff in your life, or something. Maybe it's even a satellite receiver type thing to run all the proprietary software that the corpos require to be always online. It is a dystopia after all.
