Socketed ram peaks at 5600 MT/s. Macbook pro soldered ram runs at 8533 MT/s.
You straight up lose 35% performance for sticking with socketed ram.

I have an 8gb ram laptop and it's fine for general use, even some light gaming on the shitty dedicated gpu
of course my desktop has 128gb because i'm doing Real Shit on there
Pick the right tool for the right job. 8gb can work

If you have a dGPU that is.
Cuz if you don't, you effectively only have 4GB to use since the other 4GB is allocated to iGPU.

SSDs became quick enough for ridiculous amounts of swapping so the cattle doesn't notice the issue as much as back in the HDD days.
The will notice though once their SSD croaks because of the insane amounts of writing cycles caused by the swapping.
It's the perfect situation for companies. They can sell shit overpriced and then sell shit again once the SSD is done and the cattle just buys new instead of changing the SSD (which in some cases is even impossible without solder iron)

16GB is still fine for general use.
Emails, web browsing, streaming video, some light productivity software and light casual gaming.

32GB should be the minimum standard for any purpose-built gaming PC or a computer that will be doing more than generic emails/web browsing.

Personally I've got 2x16GB and have had since 2015, but my next platform upgrade I'll grab 2x32GB

I genuinely want to know what you need even 8gb of RAM for. Seriously. I have no idea at this point what windows needs say to just idle on a fresh install.. so Im guessing maybe this could be the issue? But I want an actual answer form anyone. At tops and I mean at tops I'll maybe go to 6 and thats if Im working with multiple graphics editing things opend etc. General usage from around 600 - 1.5 gigs.. So I am actually curious.
