I like shilling my protectli
https://protectli.com/
runs coreboot and opnsense and came preinstalled with them. just don't do wifi on it them if you have BSD (my opnsense installation runs on freebsd). get something else as a dedicated wifi access point. I tend to like mikrotik for everything else

Depends on your personal needs for your network.

Most people are fine using their generic ISP router, or a generic Asus/TP-Link/Netgear router.

If you want a simple plug and play solution then stick to a major "normie" brand, if you want to go more "prosumer" then look at Ubiquiti or Mikrotik. If you want the MOST configuration options possible look for something OpenWRT compatible, or build a PFsense (or similar router OS) box.

not much desu. it's a 1gig symmetrical FTTH line. i don't really game so don't care about QoS, biggest traffic is probably the plex server i host for friends and family

For me Mikrotik, but for you it will probably be something else. You will pretty much will get all the possible options, from consumer crap, to prosumer fancy gear, to cobbled together shit. Replacing stock firmware, or running controllers, open source or closed source, next to no firmware updates or long term support, you name it.

It just depends on your networking skills, the money you have and your ability to do proper research and finding the right gear for yourself.

So no, don't take advice or recommendation from 4chan.

UCG-Fiber is the only consumer router right now that is really built for 10gbps and isn't $400+.

It has 3x 10gbps ports (2x SFP+ and 1x 10GbE).
SFP+ 10GbE modules are like $20-50 and you can get an 8 port SFP+ switch from ubiquiti for another $280 if you needed to expand your 10gbps LAN port count.

Well, I'd imagine they'd be slower without their legs, but I don't think it'd effect their range? I didn't even know they had range, I figured they just... bite you or something.

Nope, the legs will come flying from wherever they are, re-attach, and then it will shoot lasers at you.
