Is there a reasonable way to transfer the heat of the PC outside the room? Just buy 5 meter long cables for everything and put the whole thing outside the room?

no it isnt, most components are fine with 50C.
your CPU can cope with 100C

Either your cooling is ass or you have housefire components in the first place and won't lose much if you just power limit them a bit.

What about those AC hose? Can't you hook one to your pc exhaust to get all the heat transferred outside and not turn your room into a sauna?

That's a crank window. Plastic slat sits between sill and window. There's a hole in that plastic slat for the tube to exhaust air.

>home server draws 200w idle
>move hard drives to new server that isnt running a threadripper
>discover hard drives alone were pulling 120 watts
A-at least I'm pulling only 160W now, r-right? And it'll be less once this takes over as my NVR from one of the last of the intel Mac minis, r-right?

your electrical components dont feel heat the same way we do. sure they get a bit hotter because its 30 something celsius instead of around 20 or less, but not by that much.
(you) are going to feel it much more since it dumps that heat in your room and if you also have high humidity you are fucked.
i would know since my room is about 4x5m with only 1 window and there's a receiver, active subwoofer and of course my pc in there too all running at the same time and there's like 60% relative humidity.

bro your drives should be spinning down
if they are constantly spinning you have designed your system improperly

Well dude I'm gonna. Also it was 5 hard drives. And maybe it was Ubuntu being stupid and ignoring the hdparam.conf settings, maybe I last measured "idle" power draw while I had some file in the BTRFS pool open.

If I'm buying new storage a more sensible approach would be to replace the 4 2tb drives with 2 4tb ones at least at first.
