Doesn't Wayland open the door to DRM on Linux? As I understand, Wayland is a sort of limited hypervisor: it isolates everything and controls what goes in and out of everything. Streaming services could probably prevent screen captures by closing off unverified inputs/peeks. I reckon IBM will eventually make app attestation a core part of Wayland.

that is a good point , however wayland by design is open source as is other critical components, bypass would be easy, it would require alot more than just attestation to be acceptable.

Retards. Wayland is just a protocol.
It's up to the desktop environment to enforce that isolation.
An app can not hide itself from the desktop environment.

lol no it cannot. If the DE can see the app's image, what's stopping it to feed the image to the recorder?
Where the fuck did you get that idea from?

well no shit, but if a de were to support drm, the ecosystem being wayland makes it alot easier to implement. much harder to do it on x because its a free for all, you'd break other funtionality by doing it. but none of that matters because the de is only 1 part in the chain, as mentioned >>105769581
youd have to replace alot of different things with closed source versions to obfuscate the data, including the gpu's kernel driver.

anon you could hypothetically build a drm(digital right millenium) compliant wayland DE with a closed source kms module that does not communicate openly , and not break anything on the user end, on x11 you cant do that without breaking something.

anyone who would gimp piracy like this is already throttling the content you get. netflix won't give you anything better than 1080p on linux.
all this does is open up more piracy options. we already played this game in the 2000's

guess what?
piracy won.
it will always win. and anyone paying for these services like netflix is retarded.

We warned you to install Gentoo. IBM isn't going to stop until you will need to log in with a Red Hat account to decrypt your own hard drive and you can only browse to a globohomo approved list of websites. You should have listened.

it's not about cracking down on piracy. it's about not letting you own your computer and humiliating the paypigs

it's not really a protocol. protocols define a transport layer like tcp, http. "wayland" is just a dumb and confusing label for a set of graphical shell api.

what "wayland" is: you connect to some socket opened by your graphical shell, and you send and receive REST like messages. it's literally just a set of documented endpoints with certain behavior.

It's posed in a way as if this extra, optional, feature, that X11 cannot have for technical reasons, is a bad thing.
That would be the same as saying that a TV or monitor that does not support HDCP is more valuable than one that does.

>>105771511
Except here you can simply ignore the government and disable DRM on your computer or not use it at all.
