This is why when you open 100 tabs of porn, the tabs unload when you switch away causing them to have to reload when you switch back. It's annoying and I hate it

What do you expect exactly? Processes are basically the only isolation mechanisms browsers can rely on on every platform. Sharing memory (threads) is how bugs become fullblown escapes.

Of course it seems obscene if you're oldschool.
But really, how much of that is a) not cached and b) not shared?
I suspect a lot of it is cached data as I noticed that Firefox started performing better when I moved its cache storage from HDD to SSD.

It's like people who complain about MacOS using all their RAM when what it's actually doing is filling unused ram with disk cache. RAM uses power regardless of if it's allocated or not and freeing up cache if you need more memory is fast just as accessing files from RAM is still way faster than hitting the SSD.

JewTube's JS must leak like sieve. If have a tab on that it just consooms and ever-growing amount of memory. If I close it and open a new tab it goes back to a sane amount of memory consumption. Same happens in Safari as well. I refuse to use Chrome.

Sounds like a you problem. I have 1330 open, a few hundred of which or 4chins tabs with a few scripts. Whole system is just at 10GB used. Since I prefer KDE, a bit of that is probably the bloat of the KDE itself.
